Jaia Thomas is a sports and entertainment attorney with over ten years of experience. She regularly assists professionals in the television, film and digital industries with transactional and intellectual property matters. She has brokered and negotitated deals with several networks including ABC, NBC, HBO and BRAVO. Jaia Thomas has been quoted as a legal expert in such publications as The New York Times, USA Today and ESPN. She has had several works published in the American Bar Association, National Bar Association and several law journals.
She has served as a panelist for the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Beverly Hills Bar Association and several film festivals including Sundance. She has also served as a speaker for the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA) Conference, National Black Law Student Convention and countless sports and entertainment law conferences.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jaia Thomas is a graduate of Colgate University (BA) and The George Washington University Law School (JD). She also holds a Certificate in Television, Film and New Media Production from University of California, Los Angeles.
In addition to her legal experience, Jaia Thomas is an adjunct professor at UCLA, where she teaches a course titled "Copyright Law and the Entertainment Industry." She also teaches a summer seminar at UCLA School of Law titled "The Nuts and Bolts of Starting and Running a Law Practice," where she equips law students and lawyers with the tools necessary to launch and successfully sustain a law practice. The seminar covers such topics as: business plans, entity structures, client relations, billing, trust accounts and marketing techniques. The summer seminar is not only to UCLA Law students and alumni but practicing attorneys throughout Los Angeles.

Sponsored by the UCLA Law Alumni Association, this comprehensive seminar will teach attendees the nuts and bolts of how to be an entrepreneurial lawyer. This half-day seminar will provide attendees with the tools necessary to launch and successfully sustain their own solo or small law firm practice.
